Summary
ContextDeck is designed as a local-first Mac app. In the Mac App Store v1 build, the memory vault is stored on the user's Mac, imports start from files or folders the user chooses, and extracted memories require user approval before long-term use.
The Mac App Store v1 build is designed without a required account, cloud sync, telemetry, third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or uploads of the user's memory vault to TONKLEY INNOVATIONS LTD. servers.
Mac App Store privacy summary
For normal use of the Mac App Store v1 app, ContextDeck is designed so TONKLEY INNOVATIONS LTD. does not collect the user's memory cards, source files, imported chat exports, Context Spaces, Context Packs, usage analytics, diagnostics, identifiers, location, contacts, or browsing history through the app.
If a user separately contacts support by email, that support message is processed as described in the Website and support data section below.
Local vault data
ContextDeck stores its local vault database in Application Support on the user's Mac. In a sandboxed Mac App Store build, this storage is inside the app container.
The local vault may contain memory cards, candidate memories, Context Spaces, source evidence, sensitivity levels, expiry dates, and import metadata created by the user's use of the app.
This local vault data is not uploaded to TONKLEY INNOVATIONS LTD. by the Mac App Store v1 build.
Local AI processing
ContextDeck can extract candidate memories and generate local embeddings or search data for approved memories. In the Mac App Store v1 build, this processing is intended to run locally on the user's Mac using the app's local database and bundled local components.
The Mac App Store v1 build is designed not to send imported content, candidate memories, approved memories, embeddings, or Context Packs to TONKLEY INNOVATIONS LTD. servers for AI processing.
Imports and file access
ContextDeck reads import files or folders only after the user selects them through a macOS open panel.
- ChatGPT export import uses a user-selected JSON file.
- Markdown import uses a user-selected folder.
- Obsidian import uses a user-selected vault folder.
If the user selects an Obsidian vault folder, ContextDeck may save a security-scoped bookmark so it can access that same selected vault again within the macOS sandbox. The bookmark is not used to access unrelated folders.
Mac permissions
The Mac App Store v1 build is designed around user-selected file access, local database storage, clipboard copy actions, and optional security-scoped bookmarks for selected folders.
The app is not designed to request access to camera, microphone, contacts, calendars, reminders, photos library, precise location, health data, or HomeKit data for its core v1 workflow.
Candidate memory approval
Imported or captured content can create candidate memories. Candidate memories are not treated as approved long-term memories until the user approves them.
Users can edit or archive candidate memories before approval.
Sensitive memories
Memory cards can have sensitivity levels such as public, internal, private, or restricted. Private and restricted memories are excluded from Context Packs by default.
The user controls whether sensitive content is stored, edited, approved, copied, exported, or removed.
Context Packs and clipboard
ContextDeck can generate a Context Pack from approved memories for use in AI tools. The user decides when to generate, copy, or export a Context Pack.
ContextDeck writes to the clipboard when the user chooses to copy a Context Pack. In normal use, the app reads pasted text only when the user actively pastes or enters content into Quick Capture.
Exports
ContextDeck writes exports only to destinations selected by the user through a macOS save panel.
- JSONL export.
- Markdown Context Pack export.
- SQLite backup or filtered SQLite snapshot.
External AI services
The Mac App Store v1 build is designed not to upload the user's vault or Context Packs to third-party AI services. If the user manually copies a Context Pack and pastes it into another app or website, that use is controlled by the destination service's own privacy policy.
Developer Bridge
The advanced MCP Developer Bridge is not included in the Mac App Store v1 build. If a direct-download version offers developer integrations, they will be documented separately and must be enabled intentionally by the user.
Website and support data
If a user contacts TONKLEY INNOVATIONS LTD. for support, privacy, or App Review questions, we may receive the information the user sends, such as email address, message content, and any files or screenshots the user chooses to provide.
The company website may generate ordinary hosting logs such as IP address, user agent, requested URL, and timestamp for security, diagnostics, and reliability. The website is not intended to collect the contents of the user's ContextDeck vault.
Service providers
We may use service providers for website hosting, email, app distribution, and customer support. These providers process data only as needed to provide their services to us.
Legal basis for website and support processing
For website operation and support requests, we process information as needed to provide the website, respond to user requests, protect the service, maintain business records, and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell ContextDeck local vault data.
Retention and deletion
Local vault data remains on the user's Mac unless the user removes memories, exports and deletes files, resets the app data, or removes the app container according to macOS behavior.
Support messages are retained only as long as needed for support, legal, security, accounting, or operational purposes.
User rights
Depending on location, users may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability for personal data that TONKLEY INNOVATIONS LTD. actually holds, such as support correspondence.
Because the ContextDeck vault is stored locally in the Mac App Store v1 app and is not uploaded to us, users control local vault deletion through the app and macOS local storage.
Children
ContextDeck is a productivity tool and is not directed to children.
Changes to this policy
If ContextDeck's privacy practices change, this policy and the App Store privacy information will be updated before release or as required.
